Green Tea Blends and Add-Ins

Green tea is a friendly base. Its light, grassy taste takes well to fruit, herbs, spices and even a splash of milk, which is why blends are the most popular thing people ask us about.
Here’s the honest part, too. Most blends are about flavor. An ingredient that looks promising as a concentrated extract won’t do the same thing as a slice or a spoonful in your mug. Every guide here tells you what the evidence does and doesn’t show, then gets on with the recipe.
Where to begin
Not sure what to try? Start with what you already have:
- Other teas: green and black tea make a balanced, stronger cup.
- Warming add-ins: try ginger and honey, manuka honey or turmeric.
- Fresh and fruity: go for pomegranate, orange or elderberry.
- Cool and light: reach for mint, cucumber or coconut water.
- Creamy: see whether you can put cream in green tea, or try almond.
- Something different: stir in chia seeds.
A rule that makes every blend better
Green tea doesn’t like water that’s too hot. Steep it first at the right temperature, then add your other ingredients. Our brewing guide covers the basics, and our caffeine guide shows how much to expect in your cup.
