Store-bought green teas can be very different from the cup you brew at home. Some are sweet drinks with a little tea in them, and others are simple tea bags. The label tells you which is which, so we go by what each brand publishes.

We aren’t affiliated with these brands, and labels change, so check the package in your hand.

What to look for on a label

  • Added sugars: this is often the biggest difference. Check whether the numbers are for one serving or the whole bottle.
  • Serving size: a large can may count as more than one serving.
  • Caffeine: not every brand publishes it. Our caffeine guide gives you typical figures to compare with.
  • Ingredients: the first few tell you the most, since US labels list ingredients by weight.
